And so… Episode 5 is an episode of clearly no Hinagiku (OP and ED excluded) which is a very sad thing for Hina-fans. However, this episode is such a delightful one and the ending event gave way to the very start of the new arc involving Ayumu (not Nishizawa anymore) and Hinagiku. I won’t spoil you non-manga readers on that part so let’s continue.
This episode is divided into two parts: 1.) The introduction (and probably the last) of Nishizawa’s brother, Nishizawa Kazuki. 2.) A Hayate x Nagi part. This episode is a Nagi-centric one and it is the very first Nagi-centric episode in the whole season (despite being the heroine).
The title came from the ch. 73 of Hayate the Combat Butler (manga).
This part mainly involve Kazuki and Nagi. It is somehow different from the manga since the reason for Kazuki’s attraction to Nagi and the balloon and skirt gag was removed and replaced with a cheap “Are you crying?” question. Honestly speaking, it is lame though.
And so… The tree that I always see in most anime is here, the traditional Cherry Blossom. Frankly speaking though, isn’t this the same tree that I saw in most J.C. staff anime? Even the movements of the falling cherry blossoms are same.
We have a view on Nagi’s stubborn but cute struggle on reaching the “World’s Most Delicious Cookies” only to be reached by the idiotic guy named Ayasaki Hayate.
After Nagi left the scene, Hayate asked Maria why did they not renovate their mansion to a smaller one in order for Nagi to feel a lot more comfortable since she is having a hard time inside the mansion due to her height. Maria answered that it is because she is so stubborn that she felt that renovating her mansion would be like accepting defeat. Maria also said that it is also the reason why she has a sour face all year round. I find the answer to be obvious and funny at the same time.
And so… Nagi embarked on a journey outside the mansion alone, thinking about her problem (i.e. height) and realized that there is someone like her as well (i.e. Wataru) so she decided to visit him. Meanwhile in Wataru’s rental video store, Kazuki was there. Kazuki started the conversation in pointing out Wataru’s sour-face all year around. Then the talk went to Kazuki’s sister, Ayumu, visiting the rental shop a lot. Then the topic changed about Kazuki asking Nagi’s condition on Wataru. That lead to Wataru commenting that Nagi is a brutish girl which led Kazuki to defend her (he doesn’t even know Nagi well).
Then Nagi enters the scene asking what the fuss is about, making Kazuki surprised. Turns out the only reason of Nagi going there is to check Wataru’s height. Her comment saying that Wataru’s short turns out to piss him off. And yes! Nagi’s comment and Wataru’s reaction is priceless. Then Nagi left and Kazuki followed (stalked) her.
This is quite a funny scene especially if you have a background on the whole series. Basically, the Nishizawa siblings is a siblings of stalker. Hayate was stalked once by Ayumu. And Kazuki’s action is just like her sister. It may be in the genes. Anyway, he denied that he was a stalker; yet he admitted that he was just secretly following her. Oh, a contradictions like this happens often.
Is he even a man? Crying like that? Oh geez, but that made me chucke. Anyway, this is the first (real) confession that Nagi received.
Oh, I love the way how Hayate the Combat Butler (manga or anime) just throws a character in a certain environment with no hint of any person except the characters involved then quickly fill the environment with extras. That’s priceless.
After making Nagi feel embarrased in that confession, Kazuki decides to take her somewhere (technically, his way of making up for her is through a date). And so… He decided to take her first to a train station. Of course (for a person with absolutely no experience with stuffs normal people go through), she agreed. For those who watched the first season, you should know that episode 37 of the first season has a scene like this also (only Ayumu and not Kazuki).
Date scene number 1: (TRAIN)
Cute scene involving Nagi’s innocence in this normal stuff.
Date scene number 2: (Roaming)
Date scene number 3: Park
… Though he has been stalking you all this time.
… And his cover got blown up. After that he explained that it is just pure coincidence and he’s nowhere in the date scenes even if you rewind the scenes. And Kazuki realized that it was Hayate who stole Nagi’s heart but he never admits defeat. And Kazuki became officially like Ayumu. Perhaps I should call them “Dumped siblings”, or “Stalker siblings”, or “Normal siblings”, or “Hopeless siblings” etc.
And the second part starts after the Kazuki event. It started when Ayumu asked Wataru if something is wrong with his brother because she has a feeling about it. Then, Wataru asked Nagi if something happened between the two making Nagi pissed off and blackmailed Wataru to not tell it to Hayate.
After Wataru left, Nagi felt that Hayate should have at least felt jealous in the date and she left after Hayate asked what’s wrong (in such an innocent face). Then she saw Maria and Hayate conversing with each other. Sakuya unexpectedly appears near Nagi and said that she has the license to appear unexpectedly. They had a talk regarding Nagi and Hayate’s relationship and Sakuya suggested to add a new stimuli.
Oh yeah, hilarious!
I daresay, the highlight of the episode is the opening of the better Hayate no Gotoku. I assure you that.
The next episode is entitled “Your place” which is the same title as the ch. 76 of the manga.
