Episode 6 of Hayate no Gotoku is an epic win. We get to see the real strength of Hayate no Gotoku’s humor which is Hayate’s unluckiness and the misunderstandings. We get to see Maria in sailor fukku with a glasses. We get to see the greatness of Hina. We get to see a dere dere Nagi. We get to see a better version of Hina’s mom. And I definitely assure everyone of you, this is where everything gets better (at least in the manga, it is a fact). So let’s not hope J.C. Staff will ruin it.
The start was actually great (much better than how the manga handled it). They tried to make it like a classic old film which is enough to amaze me.
Highlight number 1: Unluckiness.
Hayate’s unluckiness is the driving force of the show. Hayate’s unluckiness with his parents is the very start of the story. Hayate’s unluckiness in money is the reason why he is called the butler-in-debt (mainly be Wataru). Hayate’s unluckiness in women is the reason why he has a handful of harem. Hayate’s unluckiness in almost everything is the main reason why this is my favorite anime (and manga).
THIS IS HIS UNLUCKINESS IN MONEY
… And that is how it all vanished in less than a day.
Danger number 1:
The three dangerous money-loving demons: Fortesia, Necktie-guy (see season 1), and the Deedlit (see episode 2-3 of season 2).
Damage taken: 100 thousand yen
Danger number 2:
If his parents are like that mother, then there would be no problem in Hayate’s life at all.
Damage taken: 500 thousand yen (critical strike)
Danger number 3:
I had the same thought as Hayate. What kind of mother would let her young child carry a 200 thousand yen jar?
Damage taken: 200 thousand yen
Danger number 4:
These extras really sucked up Hayate’s last 200 thousand yen.
And after many damages, Hayate’s 1 million yen was spent in less than a day. Counting, it should be 3 minutes and 14 seconds starting from when Hayate took the money (2:21).
But luckily, this episode’s heroine came to him as Hayate laments as his loss. I salute Hayate for being kind. I pity Hayate for being too kind. But then again, it is what makes this show. It is a lot better than those impatient generic shounen characters who can not differentiate courage from recklessness like Naruto (this show is shounen too), those gay generic main characters who does not even have any quality to be called ‘main characters’, and those generic harem lead who has no good qualities yet the girls are flocking through him.
Highlight number 2: Hinagiku Katsura and her house (The main meaning of the episode’s title)
For some reason, Hayate’s imagination on Hinagiku looks like the Hinagiku in the SynergySP’s version (I mean, season 1 art). Her hair is less saturated.
As said in the caption, her mom is made of win. I wonder though how come she looks like that. She looks a lot younger in the manga.
I thank you J.C. Staff for making her look young from the bottom of my heart.
… Will give non-manga viewers the privelege to foreshadow on what that means. For people like me, we’re spoiled.
Highlight number 3: Misunderstanding
Then Hina changed the topic to Hayate’s assignment. Then Hina begins her monologue in her thoughts.
… blah blah blah… Basically, she wants to ask whether Hayate is dating Nishizawa now.
Basically for those who don’t get it, it goes like this. Hayate asked what is the thing that Hinagiku wanted to ask Hayate. However, she changed the topic to Hayate’s schoolwork. She, then, begin her thought on what is her question. When Hayate said that he is finished (in an equation probably), Hinagiku blurted out her thoughts by saying “Nevermind. This is all pointless anyway”. By her comment, she is referring to her question. However, Hayate misunderstood it and thought that Hina meant that his effort in studying are all pointless. Which is a misunderstanding.
Anyway, the breakfast scene is also made of win.
Then, the people that sucked Hayate’s 1 million yen came to Nagi’s mansion to return the money. That put Maria into suspicion and made her wear the sailor fukku.
Highlight number 4: Sailor fukku Maria-san
Well yes, it is just that Hayate thinks that she is not Maria because Maria is not stupid enough to be caught using a weird outfit. And so, Maria decides to capitalize the situation and that’s where the episode ends… Technically, it ended in Nagi.
And so… The preview hints that it will be the part where Ayumu and Hinagiku meet each other again. And a possible appearance of Shiranui.
Anyway, the title for the next episode is Half-Baked Jealousy!!! Ja-pan which is obviously a parody of the anime Yakitate! Japan and nearly the same as the chapter 79’s title
